We’re a Charity!
When we lost Abbie our lives changed and it’s impossible to explain the devastation we felt. As we began to come to terms with what had happened we also became very aware that we were not alone in having to go through the loss of our baby in these circumstances and that it happens much more than we realised. So many people have been affected either directly or have family or friends that have experienced such a loss and, unfortunately, it will continue to happen to more people.
We set up Abbies Fund to provide memory boxes for people who will go through this horrible experience in the future to give them something to help them at the worst time and that they will also support them through the times to come.
We initially set up the Fund with money we raised at Abbie’s funeral, but have since increased that by fund raising ourselves, and with the generous support of donations and other fund raising events from people who have received one of Abbie’s boxes, and a host of local businesses. We’re incredibly grateful for all of that support.
We didn’t think that we’d get to the point of becoming a charity, but we have. It’s quite a process to go through, but the Charities Commission were really helpful and we are now an official charity (Charity number 1152635). This allows some businesses to make donations or sponsor us that were previously not able to do so, and has resulted in our first long term sponsorship (read more).
We’re pleased to have made it to this stage and will continue to support Hull and East Yorkshire families in memory of Abbie.
